Set up the Jira/Jira Server application

Guide to setting up the Jira or Jira Server application for your organization on Blink.

Updated over a week ago

There are a few small differences in setup between Jira Server and Jira that are highlighted in this guide. You should set up the 'Jira Server' app if you are running Jira on-prem. You should set up the 'Jira' app if you are running Jira as part of an Atlassian Cloud package.

  1. In your Jira instance, navigate to the 'Application Links' page in the Applications tab in Settings

  2. In the text box, enter app.joinblink.com and click 'Create new link'

  3. In the modal that appears, tick 'Use this URL' and click 'Continue'

  4. On the new modal that appears, put Blink in the 'Application Name' field, then click 'Continue'

  5. Make a note of the value in 'Application URL' with the Jira icon next to it at the top of this modal. This is your Jira instance URL. This is what you provide Blink on the app setup page.

  6. You will now have an Application Link called 'Blink' in your list of Application Links. Click the pencil icon on the right-hand side of the Blink Application Link.

  7. In the modal that appears, navigate to 'Incoming Authentication'

  8. Now navigate to the Settings > System > Webhooks page

  9. Click "+ Create a Webhook" on the top right of the page

  10. You have now successfully connected Jira to Blink. The final step is to point Blink to your Jira instance.

    1. Either select Jira or Jira Server in the apps tab and put the instance url for your Jira instance into the textbox, then click save.

  11. Users in your organization can now connect their Jira accounts to Blink and get cards from Jira in their feeds
