Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD) nudges integration brings training reminders from Cornerstone straight into the Blink feed. Employees see newly assigned, upcoming and overdue training in one place, with a button that opens each course in Cornerstone. It's designed for organisations that use Cornerstone as their learning management system (LMS) and want to help employees, especially frontline teams, complete training on time without managers or L&D teams chasing them manually.
The integration only reads data from Cornerstone. It never changes anything in Cornerstone.
Prerequisites
Your organisation uses Cornerstone OnDemand as its LMS.
The Reporting API module is enabled in your Cornerstone Production environment. Speak to your Cornerstone Client Executive to have it activated.
A Cornerstone admin with the Edge APIs - Manage permission.
A value that identifies each employee in both systems: the Cornerstone
user_reffrom CSOD’susers_coremust match a value on the employee's Blink profile (for example employee ID or username).Optional: single sign-on (SSO) between Blink and Cornerstone, so employees don't need to sign in to Cornerstone when they open a course. Setting this up requires support from your Cornerstone representative.
User experience
Employees receive training nudges in their Blink feed on the schedule agreed for your organisation. Each nudge lists the relevant courses with their due dates and an Open button that goes straight to the course in Cornerstone (with SSO, they're signed in automatically). Several courses in the same category are grouped into one nudge.
Nudge | Description |
Newly assigned training | Once a day, employees receive a "Newly assigned training" nudge listing training assigned to them in the previous 24 hours. Training assigned after that day's check appears the next day. |
Upcoming training | Employees with courses due soon (within 14 days by default) receive an "Upcoming training" nudge on the scheduled days until they complete the course. |
Overdue training | Once a course is past its due date and still incomplete, it moves to the "Overdue training" nudge, which is sent on the scheduled days until the course is completed. |
Configuration
In order to configure this integration, reach out to your Blink representative. You will need to provide Blink with API access to your Cornerstone environment. We recommend testing in your Cornerstone Stage or Pilot environment first, then repeating the steps in Production.
Step 1: Enable the Reporting API
In Cornerstone, go to Admin > Tools > Edge > API Management and check that the Reporting API toggle is on.
Step 2: Set up an integration user
Create a dedicated user account for the integration (for example
Blink_Integration), so the connection keeps working if an employee leaves or changes role.Give it a security role with the Reporting API - Read Only permission. No other permissions are needed.
Note the user's User ID for the next step.
Step 3: Register an OAuth 2.0 application
Create a new OAuth 2.0 application with these values:
Field | Value |
Application Name |
|
User ID | The integration user's User ID from Step 2 |
Access Token Validity Period |
|
Endpoint scopes/permissions | Reporting API |
Step 4: Select the data endpoints
Type
objin the filter box.Tick read (GET) access for these four endpoints only (don't use Select All):
language_coreusers_core(sometimes shown asuser_core)training_local_coretranscript_core
Select Register Application (or Save Changes).
All four are required. If any are missing, no nudges will be sent.
Step 5: Define how the feed post should look like
Your Blink representative will agree the following with you prior to setting up the nudge:
Option | What you can customise |
Nudge types | Any of: Newly assigned training, Upcoming training, Overdue training |
Schedule | The days, time and timezone nudges are sent |
Text | The wording of the feed post |
Imagery | The image shown on the feed post |
Layout | The layout of the feed post |
Push notification | Whether employees also get a push notification when a nudge is posted |
Timeframes | How far ahead counts as "upcoming" (default 14 days) and how long after the due date a course counts as "overdue" (default 1 day) |
Excluded statuses | Cornerstone training statuses that should never trigger a nudge |
Step 6: Share the details with Blink
Securely share the following with your Blink representative (not by plain email or chat):
Your Cornerstone portal URL (for example
https://{yourcompany}.csod.com), plus your Stage or Pilot URL if testing there firstThe application's Client ID and Client Secret
Which Blink profile value matches the Cornerstone User ID
Your Blink representative will then agree with you which nudges to switch on and when they're sent.
