Best practices to brand and customize the Blink app for your organization

Updated over 11 months ago

The look and feel of Blink is completely customizable and this article will show you how to add your company branding to your Blink Organization! Organization Administrators can customize the look and feel of Blink by adjusting colors and uploading brand assets to the Branding section of the Blink Admin portal.

This feature is available with all Blink subscriptions.

In this article:

How to change colors

  1. Navigate to the Branding tab of the admin portal.

  2. In the Colors section, you can use your brand colors to theme certain parts of the user interface.

  3. Click on the color selector and input your company colors in either a hexadecimal or RGB format or use the selector to choose a different color completely!

  4. The preview will show you color options in live updates allowing you to check that the icons and text remain legible.

Brand Colors

These colors are used to theme major navigational parts of the desktop and mobile Blink apps, including the side navigation bar on the desktop app and at the top of each page on the mobile apps.

Background color

Used to theme the side navigation bar of the desktop app and for the bar at the top of our mobile apps. This color is also added as an overlay opacity option on the background image.

Text and icons

This color will be used for any icons or text that appear on top of the background color.

Notification dot

This color is used for the dots that appear in the navigation bar of the apps to show you that you have a new message or feed post.

Notification number

This color is used for the number that is displayed inside of the notification dot that shows the number of notifications you have.

Mobile navigation colors

These colors allow you to do the same as the above, changing the Text, Icons and Notifications. This set of colors is used when the background of the app is required to be white such as the navigation bar at the bottom of the mobile apps.

Your brand colors can be the same for both the desktop and mobile apps, or you can make them different, it's entirely up to you!

  • Once you've selected the perfect color scheme for your organization, press the Save changes button in the bottom right-hand corner.

  • The desktop app should update automatically for all users. The mobile apps will need to be closed and re-opened to be updated but will also automatically update for all users. As a result, the mobile apps will update next time you close and re-open the app.

  • If you're not sure how to find the hexadecimal or RGB codes for your brand colors, this converter will help you find the correct code: Open converter.

How to add your logo, background image, and icon

Now that you've added your brand colors to the app, you can add a selection of brand assets to further customize the look and feel of Blink.

On the web and desktop versions, your customizations will be visible as shown below:

Your mobile users will also see your customizations (specifically branding colors [orange], company logo [green], and selected background images [red]) as shown below:

The Company Logo appears at the top of most pages of the desktop and mobile apps. You can upload a different logo for the mobile and desktop apps. We recommend uploading a transparent .png logo that's 460px wide by 70px high. This is the same for the desktop and mobile logos.

  1. Click on Select logo

  2. Choose the logo you'd like to upload

  3. Your logo will appear in the preview below to show how it will look when placed on top of your background image

    1. style='box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 700; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: center; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;'>

The background images are used at the top of the Feed. You can upload different images for both the mobile and desktop apps, reposition them and even change the opacity of the overlay on top of them. For the desktop background image, we recommend you use a .jpg which is at least 1500px wide by 500px high. For the mobile background image, we recommend you use a .jpg which is at least 750px wide by 350px high.

  1. Click on Replace image

  2. Locate the image that you would like to use

  3. Repositioning the image and adjust the overlay

    1. Reposition the image - Click on Adjust image and then drag the image to reposition it.

    2. Overlay opacity- Your brand background color is added on top of your background images to ensure that your logo and in-app navigation is easy to read when placed on top of your background image. You can adjust the opacity of this to suit your needs.

The Company Icon appears at the bottom of the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the desktop app. We recommend using an icon that is 400px square.

  1. Click on the camera icon

  2. Locate your companies icon

  3. Crop the icon how you want it and click on the blue button

💾 Don't forget to save! - Once you're happy with your changes, press the Save button at the bottom of the page to update the apps.
