How to set up a live stream
At present, Blink supports live streaming from both Youtube and Vimeo.
Youtube
In order to live stream on Blink, you'll need to make sure you've enabled your YouTube channel for live streaming and verify your channel. For more help with YouTube, check out this article.
On your YouTube page in the upper right, click Create📽️and then Go Live.
From the left menu, select Webcam 📷.
The Create stream window will appear where you'll need to enter all required information:
First, enter the Details which include the Title, Description, Category, Thumbnail, Playlist, Audience, and a few other options. Only the Title and Audience are specifically required.
Click next to move on to Customization options which include Live Chat, Participant modes, and Message delay.
By clicking next again, you'll get to the final set of options called Visibility. This is where you set the privacy of your video to be Private, Unlisted, or Public. You can also schedule your stream for a specific date and time in the future. Unlisted is the best option to select here as only people you specifically share the link with will be able to access the live stream.
Once this information has been entered to your liking, click on Share and the option to copy a video link will appear. You can share this link in a Feed post or a message in Chat; however, it's important to remember that the video won't be accessible until you've hit the Go Live button on YouTube.
If you decide to add the video to a Feed post, you can set the audience and add an intro if you'd like to. Don't forget that you can also schedule a Feed post so you could schedule it for the specific date and time of your live stream.
Vimeo
At present, this is a feature that Vimeo offers exclusively to Advanced plans.
Start by creating an event in Vimeo by logging into your account, clicking the "new" dropdown in the upper right corner, and selecting "host event"
Select "choose event types"
This will set up the event with most of the necessary default settings. Change the Broadcast Method from "Stream with an encoder" to "Stream through your browser"
On this same screen, you can select to turn on Chat, Automatic captions, and registration if desired.
Once satisfied with the settings, select "Next" and enter the desired event details. Then click "Create".
You can then add speakers and content to prepare for the event as desired.
When ready to share to the Feed, select the "Share link" icon at the top of the screen and copy the link.
Navigate to Blink and create a post as you normally would and paste the link copied from Vimeo. Don't forget that you can also schedule a Feed post so you could schedule it for the specific date and time of your live stream.
