What is Instant Live Streaming

Instant live streaming is a native to Blink feature that allows you to start a live stream in your app without incorporating any third-party systems.

The experience is more seamless as commenting and reactions can be added to the live stream just as they are on a typical Feed post.

You can now go live from the web app or directly from the Blink mobile app on iOS and Android.

How to start an Instant Live Stream

  1. Make sure this feature is enabled for your organization by reaching out to your Customer Success Manager or our Support team

  2. Click on the "Live" option in the post text box on the Feed

  3. Select the "Instant Live" option on the left

  4. This will open a post editor where you can add text, an audience, and a category just as you would for a Feed post. Only users in the group(s) selected will be able to see your Live Stream.

  5. Once you're happy with your selections, click the Set Live option in the lower right corner

  6. This will post the live to the Feed as shown below.

  7. When you're ready to end the stream, click the end broadcast option at the bottom of your controls.

  8. The live will then be available as a video recording on the Feed for all users in your audience.

How to start an Instant Live Stream on mobile

You can go live straight from your phone using the Blink app on iOS or Android.

  1. Open the Feed and tap Share a post to open the post composer.

  2. Write your post text and choose your audience. Only users in the group(s) selected will be able to see your live stream.

  3. Tap the + button in the composer toolbar and select Live video from the Insert menu.

  4. A live video placeholder is added to your post. Nothing is broadcast at this point. You can adjust your settings and start broadcasting once the post is shared. If you change your mind, you can remove the live video from your post before sharing.

  5. Tap Next, select a category for your post, then share it. Your post appears on the Feed showing that the broadcast is not yet live.

  6. From your shared post, you have two options:

    • Preview - Check your camera and settings before going live. The preview is only visible to you.

    • Go Live - Start broadcasting to your audience.

  7. If this is your first time going live, allow Blink access to your camera and microphone when prompted.

  8. Tap Go Live when you're ready. While broadcasting, your viewers can watch, comment, and react in real time.

  9. When you're finished, tap End Broadcast and confirm. The recording is then available on the Feed for your audience to watch back.

Note: Only Instant Live streaming is available from mobile. To stream using an external tool such as OBS, Zoom, or Teams, start your stream from the web app.
