What are Post Approvals

The best content often comes from the frontlines — but without controls in place, organizations often lock down the Feed to avoid risk.

Post Approvals let you safely open up content creation to a wider audience. When enabled, user-generated posts require approval before they go live. Group Admins and Org Admins can review posts for quality, tone, and relevance — so you can encourage participation without compromising your message.

Groups that have post approvals enabled will require a moderator (team admin, people admin, or organization admin) to approve a post before it appears on the Feed. Moderators will have the ability to reject or approve posts as needed.

Setting up Post Approvals

Post approvals will need to be set up at the Group level: every individual group that needs to have post approvals enabled will need to be updated via the steps below in the Groups section of the admin portal.

  1. In the Groups view in Admin, navigate to the desired team or community you'd like to update

  2. In the group settings, select the "posting permissions" option

  3. Within the pop up that opens, click on the toggle to enable this feature. The toggle will turn blue and be right-aligned when this is turned on.

  4. Click update permissions to save your changes

Posting experience

Post publication for these groups will occur in two phases: the creation of the post by the post author and the approval of the post by the moderator(s).

Please note that posts made by moderators (group admins, people admins, and organization admins) will not have to go through an approval process.

Post Author

Post authors will create and format their post like normal for the most part; however, when they select the audience, they will see a label indicating that posts to the desired group will require approval.

Authors will publish the post like normal, and it will appear on their own Feed in a pending state while it is under review.

If the post is approved, it will appear in the Feed for the selected audience. Once approved, it will appear at the top of the Feed regardless of the time it was sent or approved.

If the post is not approved, the author will receive a notification as shown below. If they'd like to resubmit the post, they will need to create a new one and submit it for approval again.

Moderator

Once a post is submitted for approval, group admins, people admins, and organization admins will receive a notification in the notification centre advising that there's a post to review.

Moderators will click into the notification to review the post and will then have the option to approve or reject it as necessary.

Helpful Hints

  • Posts with live streams will also require approval

  • Posts that contain multiple groups that require approval will need to be approved by a people or org admin

  • Posts published by a moderator (group admin, people admin, or organization admin) will not require an approval.

  • At present, there isn't a way to advise the post author of the reason for a post rejection directly; however, we are exploring this functionality and hope to add it in the future.
