Create a post in multiple languages at the same time

Overview

Attach Translations is a feature on Blink that allows you to add custom translations to both User Generated Content Admin specific elements such as Aliases and Post Categories. This gives you the ability to be specific in the translated content users with different language preferences can see.

When creating an attached translation, it will be shown to the user whose device language matches the locale selected in the translation centre. For users who language doesn’t match they will be shown the source content.

All translations go through our Translation Center - where users are able to select a locale and provide a translation associated with it.

Feed Posts

As a User creating a new feed post, you have the ability to attach translations for different languages via the button shown below:

This symbol indicates that you're able to attach a translation to the post/piece of content. When you click this, you'll be presented with the attach translation model where you're able to add different translations for different locales.

Once you click select a language you will be presented with a list of currently supported locales within the Blink Application. After selecting a locale to include, you will be shown a window which has the source content on the left and the locale you are providing a translation for on the right.

Here you can add your content as you would with a normal feed post. You are also able to add attachments which can be the same or different from the source feed post, allowing you to fully customise the content to the selected locale.

Once completed and you’ve hit the done button you will be placed back into the language select screen - here you can either exit the modal to continue with your post or add multiple other locales you want to provide a translation for.

After exiting the modal, you will be back on the post to feed box with the banner showing you that you’ve added translations. From here you can complete your post as normal.

Editing an existing Feed post

If you have created your feed post and decide to edit whether that be for content changes or adding / removing a locale - this can all be done through the usual edit flow on a feed post.

At the bottom you are able to see the attach translations button - where you will be able to see all of the set locales on a Feed post - giving you the full ability to edit the content and attachments for each locale. You will also have the ability to add and remove any locale from the Feed post if desired.

Hub Content

With attach translations you can provide translations to the names of items in the hub for your selected locales. This ensures that pages, links, SSO’s and other content all have the right name for users with different language settings in your organisation.

To apply a translation to a hub item - you first need access to the admin panel. Once you are in the Hub Content Studio you will see your content listed like this:

To access the translation centre from here you will need to click the 3 dots on the hub item and you can access the menu with the option to attach a translation.

From here you will be shown the familiar screen of the translation centre and you'll be able to add translations to all locales you require.

Sections

Similar to hub items, you can add a translation to different locales for sections. To do this you first need to navigate to the section tab in the hub content studio.

Similar to hub content if you click the 3 dots on the right-hand side of the content you will be presented with the option to attach a translation.

Pages

You can also attach a translation to each of the pages you have in your organisation. This is a very similar flow to how we attach translations everywhere else in the app.

To attach a translation to a page you first need to enter the edit page screen for your chosen piece of content:

To open the translation centre you will need to go into actions and select attach translations.

This will open the translation centre for pages and you can select a locale to add and provide your content in the following screen.

Here you can provide a fully custom experience for each of the locales you want to add to the page - including locale specific content, images and attachments.

Once you have added content to your selected locales you can close the translation centre and publish the page.

💡 When translating the hub page ensure to also provide a translation for the hub item title to ensure it shows up for the selected locale. 💡

Publishing Profiles

You can provide a translation in the publishing profiles section if you have a profile set up as an Alias.

First you will need to create the Alias that you want to provide translations for. Once it is created you will need to enter the centre through the three dots contextual menu.

From here you will be back in the translation centre and able to provide translations for each locale you want to include:

FAQs

How do I turn on this feature?

This is enabled for all organizations by default.

How many languages does it support?

We currently support as many languages as we have in the app.

Can you add translations while editing a feed posts?

Yes, as detailed above you can add and remove translation attachments when editing a feed post.

Are there any limits?

Yes, the more translations you add for an item the long it will take to process. When adding attachments in a translated feed post we recommend, one attachment per locale per edit.

How many translations can I add?

In theory you can add as many translations as we currently support to an item, just be aware that this will have impacts on processing time.

Who can add translations?

For feed posts it is just the owner/author of that feed post. For anything hub related, any admin who can normally edit the content can add a translation.

Are there any formatting limitations on the Feed?

No: attached translations can be formatted in all the same ways as other Feed posts.
