Notifications by Device

a brief overview of all our current notification types for iOS, Android, and Desktop options

Blink sends different types of notifications depending on your device. If your notifications have stopped working, the cause is almost always a device-level permissions setting rather than anything in Blink itself.

Why aren't my Blink notifications working?

The most common cause is that Blink's notification permission has been turned off in your device's system settings. Open your phone or computer settings, find Notifications, and make sure Blink is toggled on. See the steps for your platform below. If permissions are on but notifications still aren't arriving, check that you don't have Do Not Disturb active or notifications snoozed - see Managing your notification settings.

✅ Why this matters

Never miss what matters - @mentions, direct messages, and mandatory reads all trigger notifications so you're reached even when Blink isn't open.

Each platform works differently - notification types and OS permission settings vary between desktop, iOS, and Android. This article covers all three.

Fast to fix - device permission issues take under a minute to resolve once you know where to look.

In-app controls are separate - this article covers device-level settings. For in-app notification preferences (Do Not Disturb, quiet days, group muting), see Managing your notification settings.

This article covers: notification types and device settings for Desktop, iOS, and Android.

💻 Desktop

On desktop, Blink can notify you about:

  • New messages in chats and channels

  • New feed posts

  • New comments on feed posts

  • @mentions in chats, feed posts, and comments

  • Reactions and likes on your feed posts and comments

  • New surveys and survey reminders

Notifications appear as a sound and a pop-up banner. You'll also see a notification badge on the app icon and browser tab.

On Windows:

On macOS:

💡 Chat notification sounds. Blink only sends a notification sound if you haven't received a message in that chat for more than 1 minute - so an active conversation won't trigger repeated dings.

You may also see in-app notification banners for content that requires your acknowledgement, such as Mandatory Reads.

How to enable desktop notifications

Windows: open Settings, click System, then Notifications. Find Blink in the app list and make sure the toggle is on. You can also control whether notifications appear on the lock screen and whether sounds play.

macOS: open System Settings, scroll to Notifications, find Blink, and confirm the toggle is on.

🍎 iOS

On iOS, Blink can notify you about:

  • Messages - direct messages, group chats, and channels

  • Feed post acknowledgements

  • Feed posts and feed post deletions

  • Feed comments

  • Feed likes and post reminders

  • Surveys

When you have unread notifications, a badge counter appears on the Blink app icon on your home screen.

You can also manage which notification types you receive directly within the Blink app settings.

How to enable iOS notifications

Open Settings on your device, scroll to Notifications, find Blink in the list, and confirm the toggle is on.

🤖 Android

On Android, Blink can notify you about the same activity types as iOS. Your app icon also displays a badge showing the number of unread chat notifications.

How to enable Android notifications

Open Settings, select Notifications, then tap App notifications. Scroll to Blink in the list and confirm the toggle is on.

❓ FAQs

My notifications are enabled in device settings but I'm still not receiving them - what else should I check?

Check the following in Blink itself: Do Not Disturb hours may be active, notifications may be snoozed, or your global notification preference may be set to Mentions and Direct Messages only. See Managing your notification settings for all in-app controls. If everything looks correct and notifications still aren't arriving, contact Blink support.

How do I stop receiving notifications temporarily?

Use snooze or Do Not Disturb in the Blink app - both are quicker than changing device settings and won't affect other apps. See Managing your notification settings. To permanently stop push notifications, follow the steps above for your device and turn the Blink toggle off.

I'm only missing notifications from certain groups - is that a device issue?

No - if notifications are working for some groups but not others, that's an in-app setting rather than a device permission. Open the group and check whether it's set to Mute or Important posts only. See Managing your notification settings.
