Managing your notification settings

Updating and managing your notification preferences

Blink gives you precise control over what you're notified about, when, and on which days - so you stay connected without being overwhelmed.

How do I change my notification settings in Blink?

On desktop, click your profile picture and select App preferences, then open the Notifications section. On mobile, tap More then Notification settings. From there you can set your global preference, Do Not Disturb hours, quiet days, and desktop sound. To change notifications for a specific group, open that group and tap its name or settings icon.

✅ Why notification settings matter

Stay on top of what counts - choose to be notified about everything, or only messages that need your attention.

Cut the noise without missing out - mute busy groups, set quiet days, or snooze temporarily when you need to focus.

Protect your off-hours - Do Not Disturb is on by default from 10 PM to 6 AM, so Blink won't interrupt you outside work.

Everything still waits for you - notifications sent during Do Not Disturb or quiet days collect in your Notification Centre until you're ready.

This article covers: global notification preferences, group-level notifications, Do Not Disturb hours, quiet days, and snoozing notifications.

🔔 How do I set my global notification preference?

Your global preference controls which activities send you a notification across all of Blink. There are two options:

  • Everything - Blink notifies you about every new message, comment, and like.

  • Mentions and Direct Messages only - Blink notifies you only when you receive a direct message or are @mentioned specifically.

Desktop

Click your profile picture in the top left, select App preferences, and open the Notifications section.

💡 Desktop notification sound. On desktop you can also choose your notification sound (or turn it off entirely) from this same Notifications section.

Mobile

Tap More in the bottom navigation bar, then tap Notification settings.

👥 How do I control notifications for a specific group?

You can override your global preference for any individual group. This is useful for high-volume groups where you only want to hear about important posts.

Open the group, then tap or click the group name or settings icon to access notification options. Your choices are:

  • All posts - every post in this group notifies you.

  • Important posts - only posts marked as important by the post creator notify you. This is the default for all groups.

  • Mute - no notifications from this group.

💡 Mute not available for some groups. If you don't see the Mute option, your administrator has disabled it for that group - meaning posts from it are considered too important to silence.

Whichever setting you choose, it affects both push notifications (alerts on your device outside the app) and in-app notifications (alerts that appear while you're using Blink).

🌙 How do I set Do Not Disturb hours?

Do Not Disturb silences push notifications during a daily recurring window. Any notifications sent during this time still appear in your Notification Centre when you open the app.

By default, Do Not Disturb is on, with quiet hours set from 10 PM to 6 AM. You can adjust the hours or turn it off at any time.

Desktop

Click your profile picture, select App preferences, and find the Do Not Disturb section.

Mobile

Tap More, then Notification settings. Do Not Disturb controls are in the same screen as your other notification settings.

📅 How do I set quiet days?

Quiet days let you mute push notifications on specific days of the week - for example, your days off. As with Do Not Disturb, any notifications you miss collect in your Notification Centre until you return.

Desktop

Click your profile picture, select App preferences, and find the Quiet days section.

Mobile

Tap More, then Notification settings.

😴 How do I snooze notifications?

Snooze temporarily mutes all notifications for a set duration, without changing any of your saved settings. Use it when you need to focus for a few hours without permanently changing anything.

  1. Open the Notification Centre by tapping the bell icon in the navigation bar.

  2. Tap the bell icon in the top right corner of the Notification Centre panel.

  3. Choose how long you want to snooze notifications.

❓ FAQs

What's the difference between Mute, Do Not Disturb, and Snooze?

Mute silences notifications from one specific group permanently until you change it back. Do Not Disturb silences all push notifications during a set daily time window (for example, 10 PM to 6 AM). Snooze does the same but temporarily, for a duration you choose on demand. All three still allow notifications to collect in your Notification Centre inside the app.

Where is the Notification Centre?

The Notification Centre is the bell icon in the navigation bar, on both desktop and mobile. It shows Feed activity - likes, comments, and mentions - and is where you can access snooze controls.

Why am I not receiving notifications on my device?

This is usually a device-level permission issue rather than a Blink settings issue. Check that Blink has permission to send notifications in your phone or computer's system settings, and confirm you don't have notifications snoozed or Do Not Disturb active. See Notifications by Device for step-by-step instructions per platform.

Can I be notified about everything in some groups but only mentions in others?

Yes. Set your global preference to Mentions and Direct Messages only, then go into the specific groups where you want full notifications and set them to All posts. Group-level settings always override your global preference for that group.

Changes save across all my devices?

Yes. Preferences set in App preferences (global preference, Do Not Disturb, quiet days) apply across all devices you're signed in to. Group-level notification settings are also synced across devices.
