Written by Thomas Rafferty

📊 The Explore function is available for Blink IQ Silver and Gold Tiers. Learn more about how to upgrade your Blink IQ tier here.

Blink IQ allows you to take control of your Blink data by creating your own custom data queries which can be saved as ‘answers’ in your personal data library.

Search data

  • In the admin panel, click the ‘Search data’ option in the ‘Explore’ section of Blink IQ

  • Select a data model from the top left hand corner – the models available represent the different areas of the Blink platform, such as Feed Posts, Comments, Groups, Users, etc.

  • Once you have selected a data model, scroll through the data attributes on the left side of the data builder, and select the check box next to the data points you are interested in. You can also search for these in the Search bar.

  • Once you have selected your attributes, you can use the options at the right hand side of the screen to customise how your data will be visualised.

  • Use the Layout, Column, Axis, Tooltip, Data Label, Legend, and Display options in the navigation bar to customise your data visualisation.

💡 There are infinite options to how you can query the database – our analytics provider, ThoughtSpot, has full guidance of how to create visualisations here

One example of a data query

In this scenario, let's say you’d like to create a table showing all feed comments posted in the last month, showing the comment content, who wrote the comment, when the comment was posted, and the number of likes it received.

  • First, select the model ‘Feed comments’

  • Then, add the attributes ‘Comment Text’, ‘Commenter name’, ‘Comment timestamp’, and ‘Comment like count’

  • Click ‘Go’

  • Choose the ‘Table’ visualisation option

  • To narrow down the time range, select the three dots menu on the comment option, select ‘Filter’ and enter a date range

  • Now your table has been set up as intended. To save this query as an ‘answer’ in your own library, select the three dots menu and click ‘Save’

  • Customise the name and description for your answer, and click ‘Save answer’, or 'Download' to export to CSV

View your saved answers

  • In the admin panel, click the ‘Saved answers’ option in the ‘Explore’ section of Blink IQ

  • You can now see a list of all the answers you have saved in the past – you can open and edit these answers

  • You can also save these answers to your KPI watchlist, if they are formatted as a KPI

Share answers with other users

📊 Sharing answers with other users is available for Blink IQ Gold Tier. Learn more about how to upgrade your Blink IQ tier here.

  • Once you have created a custom answer, click the ‘Share’ button

  • Enter a user’s name, and then click ‘Share’

  • The user will then be able to see this answer in their ‘Saved Answers’ from the admin panel

📊 You can get access to Explore and save answers by upgrading to Blink IQ Silver or Gold – find out more here.
