Using biometrics and passcodes to secure Blink

Managing biometrics on Blink

Blink supports fingerprint, Face ID, and device passcode security on mobile. You can turn this on yourself for extra peace of mind - or your organisation may require it for everyone.

How do I turn on fingerprint or Face ID for Blink?

Go to More > Settings > Additional Settings and toggle Biometrics on. You will be asked to complete a fingerprint or facial scan once to confirm the change. Blink uses whichever biometric method your device supports - Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint recognition.

Your organisation may also require this for all employees - in that case, you will be prompted automatically when you open the app.

✅ Why this matters

Protects your account if your phone is lost or stolen - no one can open Blink without your face or fingerprint.

Faster than typing a password - unlock Blink in a second with a glance or a touch.

Meets your organisation's security requirements - many organisations require biometrics to protect sensitive company data. Turning it on takes less than a minute.

🔐 How do I set up biometrics on my device?

This is available on the Blink mobile app only. The setting works with whatever biometric option your device supports - Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint recognition.

  1. Open Blink and tap More in the bottom navigation bar.

  2. Tap Settings, then scroll down to Additional Settings.

  3. Toggle Biometrics on.

  4. Complete a fingerprint or facial scan to confirm the change.

💡 Prefer a passcode? If you turn off Face ID or fingerprint recognition for Blink in your device settings, Blink will automatically use your device passcode instead.

❓ FAQs

Why is Blink asking for my fingerprint or Face ID when I didn't set it up?

Your organisation has enabled biometric authentication for all employees. This is a security setting your admin has turned on to protect company data. You cannot opt out, but if biometrics are not available on your device, you can use your device passcode instead.

I can't unlock the Blink app - what should I do?

First, try using your device passcode - go to your device settings, find Blink, and disable Face ID or fingerprint recognition. Reopen the app and use your passcode instead. If you are still locked out, contact Blink support - we will need to verify your identity and work with your organisation to restore access.

Can I use a passcode instead of fingerprint or Face ID?

Yes. Go to your device settings, find Blink, and turn off Face ID or fingerprint recognition. Blink will then prompt for your device passcode instead. This works whether biometrics were enabled by you personally or required by your organisation.

Does biometric security also apply to protected Hub content?

Biometrics for app access and biometrics for Hub protected content are two separate settings. If you are being asked for biometrics when accessing specific Hub pages, your admin has enabled that separately. The toggle in Blink Settings controls app access only.

Where can I learn more about Blink's security practices?

You can find an overview of how Blink handles data and security on the Blink security page.
